City of Dallas Police Department Announces Implementation of Photo-Enforced School Zone Speed Detection Cameras
Dallas, GA — The City of Dallas Police Department, in cooperation with the Paulding County School District, is implementing a new photo‑enforced speed detection system in the Dallas Elementary School Zone along Hardy Street. This initiative reflects the department’s ongoing commitment to improving student safety and reducing speeding in areas where children are present.
The speed detection system became operational today, April 13, 2026. A 30‑day advance notification period will be provided prior to the system’s full activation, which is scheduled for the 2026-2027 school year. Upon activation, the system will operate from one hour before the start of the school day through in-school hours and continue until one hour after dismissal. Vehicles traveling more than 10 MPH over the posted speed limit will be automatically detected and recorded. Each violation will be supported by photographic evidence, and citations will be issued to the vehicle's registered owner.
The department emphasizes that the purpose of this program is compliance, not punishment. Driving above the posted speed limit in school zones puts pedestrians, especially young children, at a much greater risk of serious harm. By incorporating this technology, the department aims to promote safer driving habits and protect the community’s most vulnerable residents.
Program Highlights:
• Cameras will operate exclusively during designated times.
• Advance signage will clearly mark all enforced areas.
• All violations will undergo a thorough review before citations are issued.
• Vehicle owners will receive mailed notices with instructions for payment or contesting the citation.
###:
These cameras serve as an additional tool to help reduce speeding and create a safer environment around our schools.
